Barrie H. Fleegel (1932 – 2006)

Barrie Fleegel was a devoted family man and was very involved in many activities at his church.

Barrie began his educational career as a Science teacher in Marion in 1955. While teaching, he also served as curriculum coordinator. He became High School Principal in 1971 and two years later was elevated to the position of Marion Superintendent. Retiring in 1955, he immediately became a member of the New York State Retired Teachers’ Association.

As a member of NYSRTA, Barrie served in several offices. From 1998-2000, he served as Wayne County President and Central Western Zone Vice President. He was elected CWZ President 2000-2003 and also NYSRTA Senior Vice President. During his years as Senior Vice President, he served on the Budget and Finance Committee and the Ad Hoc Resolutions Committee.

Despite his busy involvement with NYSRTA in volunteer positions and offices, he still took time to supervise student teachers from SUNY Oswego until 2005.

Barrie H. Fleegel certainly exemplified an Active Educator in every sense of the word!
