State: I participated in a Legislative Action Conference Call 1/14/2014 to prioritize our 2014 State Agenda. Bills that we discussed at that time were:

A045723A (same as S03995-A) Relates to purchase of prescription drugs

A02781 (same as S02951) Related to endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person

A7490 (same as S05165) Tier I reinstatement

A04981 (same as S4496) Minimum Pension Bump-up

More information will be available after our April Meeting.

We will also be looking at the caregiving crisis that lacks the support and services we need and sky-rocketing utility bills.

 

Federal: Social Security benefits will get a cost-of-living increase in 2014 by 1.5 percent, an average monthly retirement payments will rise from $1,275 to $1,294, an increase of $19.

Other issues that we’ll be looking at: Fair Minimum Wage Act, Affordable Care Act,

Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act, and implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
